"These songs were an attempt to capture the essence of life's ambivalent moments over the past few years I've been living overseas. Living Like Larks is basically a carefree jaunt that's ultimately interrupted by pangs of nostalgia. It's a look back at youth from the tail-end. Blue Moon Over Rambler Channel chronicles an evening of deep introspection, during which a heavy moon dangled overhead as I walked along this massive channel of water near my home. Ghosts Among the Masts was originally sketched years ago in a dormitory by Ben and I. This fully-realized version, to me, is like an adventurous journey that's haunted by friendly and unfriendly visitors. Finally, Rainstorm Over Diamond Hill suggests that periods of intensity are not without their own kind of beauty. This last song was written while a storm brewed above us in a small practice studio in Kowloon, Hong Kong. The album, a mix of styles, draws upon all kinds of messy feelings and experiences, and I hope it inspires something worthwhile in others."
